Soooo I'm in the same situation I was last yr at this time lol
Yesterday I talked to my dr about switching pills. I currently have been on Lutera the generic of Alesse for the past year.
I love the fact that I get my period for 1 day out of the month and its super light and predictable.....but for the past 3months migraines have been starting and I get them often during the week of my period and I also have been getting really bad PMS and mood swings. Also the day of my period I'm literally in pain my lower back hurts bad and I'm nauseated for the entire day...wich is pretty much ruined. Also breakouts are getting bad and occasional breakthrough bleeding wich I never had before while on this pill.
I'm ticked cuz this pill has been excellent otherwise and no weight gain! But these last 3 months have been bad. Not to mention I do have PMDD..
So my dr mentioned Yaz and Yasmin...with my insurance I would get the generics Zarah or Gianvi ....I would greatly appreciate any feedback about these pills.
I tried Zarah for about a month but stopped taking it due to anxiety...wich at the time all I saw was those warning commercials on tv wich may have triggered it lol either way now I am willing to give either pill a fair shot for the next few months.
Again any feedback(good or bad) is more than appreciated Thanks!

I'm also kinda in the same boat, but I've been debating about getting either mirena or implanon. My biggest fear is gaining a ton of weight, but I'm such a fertile mertile I need to be on something. When I've been on the pill before half the time I would forget to take it for a few days in a row. My appt is next Friday so I guess ill cover all the bases then!
Ps now that I think of it I believe that I was on Yasmin for a few months but switched to seasonique since my migraines were so bad.

Thanks! Thats what I'm a afraid of is migraines getting worse and I do not want that! I'm so aggravated and Lutera was perfect for me up until the past few months. I'm like thanks Lutera for the past few months of torture lol My dr is highly suggesting Yasmin but next Friday will be descision time for me too.

Yeah that's my whole thing, since I get most of migraines around the week of my period I'd rather just not have a period at all! That's why I was looking at the IUDs. But let me know if you find out anymore info about the pills, I wouldn't say no to going on a pill if I knew I wouldn't have terrible migraines!

I totally agree, right when I told her about what was going on again (same thing happened when I took Loestrin/Microgestin for almost 2yrs it was perfection..zero periods etc then out of the blue I was getting beyond bad migraines almost daily wich Luter fixed til now) but right away she was like think about trying Yaz or Yasmin wich now I wish I would have just tried instead of letting all the commercials freak me out lol she also mentioned the pill Apri but a lot of the reviews I've read ppl get side effects of weight gain, breakouts and heavy bleeding....I'm like nope that pill is a far away last resort lol

The only one I have been on so far is Junel and I dislike it my period still comes whenever it feels like it even though I take at the same time daily. & it's a 21-day pill Has kept babies away, though! Luckily my next appt for renewal & pap is next month! Vaginal implants freak me out, I'm not sure why. But I want something that reduces my period lengths or occurrences. Since puberty I've always had horrific crippling cramps and it'd be super nice to stop popping ibuprofen 4 days a month !!!

Totally kinda off topic, but I swear I heard a commercial to help migraines using Botox last night. I only caught the last part of it, but maybe that's what we need to cure our migraines ladies!!!

I LOVE this thread! Thank you Wendy for starting it!
I have been on birth control since I was 13 for super heavy periods. I feel like I've been on so many of them, but Yasmin has always been my favorite. About four years ago, I switched to generic because I was tired of paying the ridiculous prices with my insurance at the time for the brand pill. At first, I was on Ocella and LOVED it. Periods were only four days max, hardly any cramping, no spotting in between and it kept my PMS and acne in check.
A year and a half ago, my pharmacy stopped carrying Ocella and switched me to Zarah without warning. I've been on it ever since and don't care for it. The thing that makes me mad the most is the spotting I have. 10 days before my actual period, I get bad enough spotting that I need to use a tampon for a 2-3 days. I find that super irritating. I don't know about the rest of y'all ladies, but I plan my life around my monthly visitor! When I asked my OB/GYN about it during my yearly exam, she said if that's the only issue I had, then I shouldn't consider switching to another pill and having to get myself and my body adjusted to it. So I've stuck it out. The other issue I have, is anxiety. I feel like Zarah makes it worse. I'm already a moody person so the slightest thing sets me off when I take this pill. When I'm not on birth control (I have taken a few breaks over the years), I feel completely normal and 100% like myself. With Zarah, I don't feel that way. I called Walgreens and asked if they could please get Ocella back and they told me they only use Zarah. Anyway, just my two cents. Maybe when I go back this November for my annual exam, there will be something else out there I could try.

Your welcome Brittney! lol and thank you for responding!
I wish I would have stuck out the Zarah than just a month last year but yep what your experiencing is what I don't want either. Friday can't get here soon enough for me lol I'm on my last week of Lutera and sick of feeling b*tch constantly.

So what kind of BC did you end up getting?? After a lengthy discussion with my dr about certain pills I'm back on Yasmin/Zarah. So far so good I don't feel anxiety like I did last year lol she said that last year around this time she had quite a few patients like me who were on Yasmin or Yaz that freaked out due to all the commercials and wanted to be switched. Whats funny is that she said that since those commercial have died down now its all the diabetes meds are in warning commercials and a lot of diabetic patients are calling in freaked out. Makes me feel better knowing that I wasn't alone tripping lol I hope this pill works out cuz I hate switching lol

I ended with a doctor who wasn't my regular one and he prescribed me sprintec which is the generic brand of ortho-cyclen. I haven't gotten yet, but the reviews I've read about it kinda scare me! Haha I'm pretty sure I'm still gonna get an IUD since I always forget to take my pills but at least I'll have something in the mean time!

I was just prescribed Tri-Previfem, I think it's the same thing maybe? Hoping it works to help my cramps!
