Gawd....I can't remember when the last time I had a full, uninterrupted night's sleep was! Who else has trouble sleeping? I've tried everything from prescription meds, herbal supplements, over the counter sleep aids, exercise, yoga...you name it. It's to the point my animals expect me to be up every hour to pay attention to them lol. I'm just not sleepy!! (It's 4:45 am as I write this...and I've been awake since 3 and went to bed at 12:30)

I know exactly what you mean - I have the worst insomnia. I'll be feeling tired all day and then as soon as it is 8 or 9 pm I suddenly feel awake and wont be able to fall asleep till 4 or 5 am if that. Recently I started taking ambien 10mg (the sandoz brand) which has significantly helped. Working in a pharmacy and in pharmacy school they tell us brands of generics dont make a different and "they are all the same". Yes that it is theoretically how it is supposed to be; however, I have tried ambien countless times before with absolutely no effect - I would take it and still be awake 4 or 5 hours later. My doctor told me he finds Sandoz more effective (and thats what he used), I skeptically agreed to try it and it made a huge difference. It is seriously a god send. If you request a certain brand from pharmacies they may classify you as an abuser but screw them - if they give you shit just go to one that understands. Hope you find some relief!

I have insomnia too which really sucks with 2 little kids to chase after on little to no sleep. I'm bipolar so mainly my insomnia is based off that. I currently take 10mg Ambien (I don't know which brand lol) and it works great. There used to be a time where I had to take 100mg of Trazadone on top of the Ambien to goto sleep but not anymore. Before ambien they had me on a very high dose of Seraquel. That was magic but it's addictive and made me gain like 50 lbs so that had to go!!
Now I am able to take my meds at around 730pm (I know that's super early but that's when my son goes to bed too) and then goto sleep around 9-10. I'm out cold til 8 am. A lot of people need to goto sleep literally right after taking Ambien because if you stay up you will start to trip like your on acid. I've been there done that but somehow I don't have that side effect anymore.

Yea it still takes me about 1 hr to have any inkling of going to bed (pn brands other then Sandoz, it never mad me feel tired I could stay up all night after taking other brans). But for a lot of people they have to take ambien immediately prior to going to bed. The biggest concern is that some patients do sleep driving while on ambien (a few pts i have run into have actually done it) but I have never had any indication of that.
Seroquel can cause drowsiness but it is usually not a first line agent solely for the treatment of insomnia, it is usually used for other reasons with drowsiness as a potential benefit - it is typically much less effective then agents which are specifically designed as agents to help with sleep. And seroquel is not an agent which is known for having an addictive potential where as most typical sleep agents can be addictive such as benzodiazepienes or the "z drugs" (ambien and sonata). Usually when a person is having insomnia at high risk for abuse or addiction they are prescribed buspar or a drug such as seroquel or mirtazipine.

I would completely black out and still be up doing things but couldn't remember the next day what I had done. My boyfriend would tell me I'd pick fights with him, cook food, bring it to bed to eat, etc. I'd never recall ANY of it. One night I remember I got lost in my bathroom. I went in there and couldn't find my way out!! It was crazy...he heard me banging around in there trying to find the door to get out. I think I was given Trazadone once too...I don't remember what the side effect I had was, but I do remember it was terrible and I ended up flushing the rest down the toilet. Ugh!! At least I have IAMTANFOEVER to look forward to reading if I'm awake lol.

Xanax works best for me lol, much better than Ambien which I maxed out mgs on quickly and doc told me that's how it goes with that one cuz it's short term. Hot shower before bed helps lots and a nice oil foot rub. Melatonin alone doesn't work for me no matter how much I take but Nature's Bounty make blueberry gummies that say 'Stress Comfort / Peaceful Dreams' on the bottle with melatonin, GABA and lavender extract, pretty decent. Another recommendation when your mind is wound are theta wave YT videos.
