Hi to all of the gorgeous, glowing people on IAMTANForever!
I realized even though I have been a member on this forum for quite some time I never formally introduced myself to the active members on this forum!
My name is Tommy and I live in rainy Vancouver, BC where the sun never shines! I am so glad I found this forum when I did a few years back, love all the discussions on here about everything under the sun! <3
A little back story on how my love for sunshine and tanning started. (if anyone even cares really! haha..) I had always loved laying out in the sun with my aunt when I was young, we would always tan in the back yard and so on but I had never thought of trying indoor tanning - I mean, I was pretty young! haha. So, after graduating High School (I was 19) I was always super interested and curious about Indoor Tanning and after some thought which took about a year, I didn't start tanning until I was 20. It's funny because I remember this day so clearly like it was yesterday (even though it was 5 years ago now..wow.) when I walked into the salon that I did some research on I explained to the girl that I was a new tanner and wanted to start tanning and if she could help set me up with whatever I needed to get started!
She started me off on a Monthly Unlimited for their "Klassic" bed which was a 100W base bed of 20 minutes! She also got me started on SB "Soy Dark" intensifier which was my very first tanning lotion that I ever tried, and loved! She started me off at 8 mins, I had no idea what was to come but I was super excited to start my indoor tanning "career", if you will.
Once my first session was done, I was hooked. I couldn't get over how GOOD I felt after jumping out of that bed, I had more energy, I wasn't as down, I wasn't as pasty and it was such a cool and relaxing experience, this is when I knew I had a love for tanning indoors. As I started tanning more often, I started realizing how interested I was in the tanning process, lotions, equipment and thought working in this industry would be such a fun and cool environment to work in! I started gaining more and more knowledge about lotions, as I became a lotion addict and had to try every single lotion my salon had in their product mix as well as any pkts that were in their "$4 lotion" box. At that point in time I knew that this was what I wanted to do, this is what I had a passion for.
I then started applying at local tanning salons in my area as well as the salon that I was currently tanning with. After much persistence I finally got a call back at a salon that was decently near my house and is a part of a chain, they have many salons over Canada. I was ecstatic. To speed up this story I only worked at that salon for around 4 months and then some complications happened with management and I decided to leave that salon, which was heartbreaking for me.
And ironically enough, my salon that I originally started tanning with that I applied to had called me a week before I decided to leave my current salon to offer me a job, and at that point in time I had no ideas of leaving so I turned their offer down. Was sad times.
I didn't get another job at a salon right away, I went back to my old job for a while as I was looking for something else (preferably a tanning salon) to replace it with. After much applying, dropping off resumes, craigslist hunting I got a call back at a very high end salon in the Downtown area of my city, I couldnt. believe. it.
Speed up to after my interview, I got called back 5 hours after and was told I got the job, my happiness was through the roof. I was finally getting back into the industry that I knew I wanted to be in.
......Aaaaand I've been with that salon for 2 years, will be 3 years this upcoming April! I wouldn't change anything for the world.
I hope whoever is reading this enjoyed my little story or maybe it was a good time consuming read.
I am definitely super interested in hearing how others on IamTanForever got into the industry (just as a tanner OR if you work at a salon!) but, now you know mine! hehe!
I look forward to formally meeting all of you on here!
