Hello everyone, I'm Marie and I'm having some problems tanning again after 6 years.
I just bought a groupon for a month of unlimited UV tanning at an awesome deal. The places has standup beds only.
So my first problem is, the bed/booth even with the fans on the highest gets stupid hot, I mean I almost passed out the two times I have gone. What can I do to try and stay cool enough that I'm not waiting for the timer to finish?
My second problem is I lightly burned both times. Now the girl at the counter assured me that even tho I am light skinned that 10 mins (which is the max) in their gold/ best level bed would be fine, as long as I lotioned properly. The next day I did the same bed but at 8 minutes, again I almost passed out and I lightly burned. Enough that I have to skip a couple of days till the light redness goes away. What do I do? Weaker bed/booth? Less time? I never had this problem in the past at all.
Now my last problem, I promise this is the last. I got some color, like 2 shades darker then my natural coat winter pre spring color. But I got color in sections! My boobs, legs, lower arms, butt, center of back, feet hardly got any color, other areas including my face got more color. How do I fix this? I never had this kind of problem in the past.
Thank you in advance for any help and advice.

If I was you I wouldn’t listen to the reccomandation of your salon any more lol. I have worked in the tanning industry for 6 years and was an avid tanner long before that, and I would NEVER suggest somebody do the full time on the first visit. I always review the customers skin type and look at their tanning needs. I always recommend starting out at about 5-6 minutes and see how your skin reacts. If there is no pink or redness you will want to increase by 1-2 minute intervals until you reach the full time. As far as being overly hot goes, maybe a try a lotion with cooling in it. One of my favorites is Designer Skin Escapade. You may also want to bring bottle of water in the booth with you . As far as tanning in sections goes maybe a lotion that is formulated for just legs on those hard to tan areas. I have a hard time tanning my arms and DS Stunners does wonders for me in that area! hope this helped and happy tanning!

Thank you so much! Yeah the girl never went over my skin type or needs at all. I think tomorrow I will try 5 minutes and see how that goes, I'm also going to try out the bottle of Paint it black lotion till I can get a leg lotion. I will definitely look into both of those lotions you mentioned, thank you again.

I know this is a late reply but this reply might help someone else with the same question.
When I re-start tanning after not going for a very long time. I always start at 3/4mins in the very lowest bed. And then every 1-2 times, depending how I feel and how often I go, I inch the minutes up until the max and then switch to the next level bed. That’s just how I do it to get my skin acclimated to tanning so I don’t burn. I know the lowest level beds don’t always have bronzing bulbs but it’ll still tan you a little bit and get your skin used to tanning so you don’t burn. I would especially do this if you are feeling lightheaded like you are going to pass out in the bed. That sounds very dangerous and you might be overheating.

You reminded me of my intro to tanning which was at the gym with stand-ups lol....I'd always work out then get in and feel like I was overheating. I already run hot. Standing up makes the sensation more uncomfortable and noticeable than laying down. That combined with the uneven color reminds me why I don't like stand-ups. And they won't tan your feet. Def bring a partially frozen water bottle like was suggested, if you're still around to read this lol. And pure aloe vera. Also alternate directions (3 mins facing forward, 3 to the side of the unit, 3 to the back). You wouldn't necessarily think you need to in a stand-up but you do. I'd find a new salon with beds cuz who the hell wants white feet!
