Hello All,
As a background, I am a 28 year old male who wanted to get tan this summer...but with work it's been hard. I've done a few sessions in a bed but not consistently, and I got red for the most part with a slight tan. Naturally I'm pretty pale and am likely in between the skin type 2c-3a range. I have jet black hair and green eyes and I always burn at first.
How should I go about getting a natural tan? What lotions and accelerators are good for people with my skin type and overall genetic makeup? In the past I have gotten a light tan without putting in effort simply by being outside consistently over a period of time.
Any feedback would be awesome! Thanks!

First off i was the same way. U just have to keep at it after a few more sessions u wouldn't be red no more. i get redish but later it turns into a tan. I would say the days your not in the tanning bed go outdoors and tan for alittle bit use a taking oil or a tanning lotion thats for outdoors. Before this hurricane hit the texas coast i had a somewhat dark tan but cause of this storm i got white again. But just keep changing it out indoors then outdoors.

Yes with a complexion like yours I think your more of a 2 just by what you typed, Get a tan sometimes takes longer just because your skin dosent produce the melanin as much as for say a type 4 skin type. Always use a lotion and build a base by going small incriments for several days and when moving your time up, always only do 2 min at a time.

Yeah, the black hair is what puts me at a 22 on that test that's linked somewhere on this site. I would say that my natural complexion is fair but not very pale, if that makes sense. Since melanin is also what makes your hair and eyes dark, I know that I am not deficient because of my hair color. Although I am on Eastern European decent, so dark hair and fair skin is common. My plan is to start in April (I live in the Northeast US) and go every other day for 2-3 minutes throughout the entire month. The following month, I'll go up to 3-4 minutes throughout the entire month. In June is when I will really start to increase my time both indoors and outdoors. It's better to be safe than sorry, because if you burn you have to start over and although my genetics are not the worst....they're far from the best. Does this seem like a good exposure schedule? What is the maximum amount of time that I should ever go for?
