I just started tanning after 20 years and man has everything changed! I have been going for 3 weeks now and when I go in they ask me what he’s I want to use. I have no clue! Any advice on a regiment of rotation? I have a good base tan. They have level 1 to 6! I hate going in and being like pick a bed for me. Any suggestions?

I just started tanning after 20 years and man has everything changed! I have been going for 3 weeks now and when I go in they ask me what he’s I want to use. I have no clue! Any advice on a regiment of rotation? I have a good base tan. They have level 1 to 6! I hate going in and being like pick a bed for me. Any suggestions? Hi there, What do you mean by "he's"? I'm also returning to tanning after about a 20 year hiatus! I went to a small local tanning salon in April and May, started tanning outside in June, and I have a home tanning bed now that I'll be using soon more regularly now that our outdoor tanning season is nearly over. I still have some "sessions" left at my salon and I'll probably use them later this fall/winter. My experience wasn't quite like yours. They started me in a stand up booth -- not high pressure, just the typical long tube lamps in a lay-down bed -- and the only thing they were asking me was how many minutes I wanted to do. That said, there are pinned threads here in the General Tanning sections - a Beginner Tanning FAQ and an Advanced Tanning FAQ - you might find some helpful info there! This paragraph in particular looked interesting, from the Advanced Tanning FAQ: _______ What kind of bed rotation should I use?
This is also up to you with no right or wrong answer. To develop a deep, natural-looking tan, you should try something similar to this: Base Bed – Medium Bed – Base Bed – HP Bed Reason: 1. Base beds help your body build up melanin, 2. you use a commonly found Medium bed (usually a 10- or 12-minute “regular” bed), and 3. then you can hit your built up melanin with an HP bed. Some people may prefer to use HP beds less or more often. Again, there is no wrong answer. _______ I read through both the Beginning and Advanced threads, and they were really helpful, but my tanning salon doesn't seem to have anything particularly new or confusing. I don't even think they have any HP (High Pressure) beds or booths; just "regular" beds with higher wattage lamps. But if the 1-6 levels at your salon are referring to standard beds, from weakest to strongest, and you've already got a good base tan, the suggested schedule above is probably a good guide: use one of the lower level "base" beds (standard lay-down that helps you build your initial base tan) every other visit or so, and mix it up with either "medium" or high pressure beds in between. Please feel free to pop back in and keep us updated Hope that helps - happy tanning!

If you have a good base tan I would recommend trying a bed with higher wattage bulbs. Instead of 32 100 watt bulbs, step up to a bed or booth with 160 watt bulbs. Also, ask when the bulbs were replaced. Newer bulbs are typically stronger and can cause you to burn if you go to long. With a good base tan, if going in a bed with a max of 12 minutes, try going for 6 to 8 minutes then advance by upping the time every other session.
there is a great deal of information available at this site if you look.
Enjoy tanning.

I find base beds a waste of time for my skin type and level tan I like, especially since my salon doesn't keep their bulbs replaced often enough.🙄 So I would recommend alternating between the strongest UVB beds (which where I go is 170w and 200w), then HP for UVA. I know what you mean about confusing and if you try to ask the teenage staff you'll wind up more confused. 🥴 I could never remember the differences between all 12 units they have so finally took notes in my phone. That way I won't have to hesitate which bed I want especially if my first choice has a wait or is down, lol.
